jsgaramay

January 24, 2025 – The Center for Disaster Preparedness (CDP) provided much-needed relief to the members of SAKAILAP (Samahan ng Katutubong Agta na Ikhan Lhaman at Phisad-Phisad (SAKAILAP) and rehabilitated their food banking store, which serves as an alternative evacuation center during disasters.

The rehabilitation was necessary after Typhoon Pepito hit the area on November 12, 2024, damaging several SAKAILAP members’ homes. Many sought shelter in the food banking store, but strong winds destroyed the kitchen area, making repairs urgent for future emergencies.

Extend appreciation and gratitude to GlobalGiving for providing the roofing materials needed to restore the damaged kitchen. Thanks to their support, the evacuation center remains safe and functional for those in need during disasters.

CDP also distributed relief goods to all 36 SAKAILAP members, as they were all affected by the typhoon. Instead of individual distributions, the relief was given collectively to support the entire group. The supplies included are canned goods, Children’s clothing and adult shirts and Children’s underwear.

The relief goods were received on behalf of SAKAILAP by Lonalyn Prado and Aiza Estanes, the organization’s President and Treasurer.

This initiative highlights the importance of strong community partnerships in disaster preparedness and response. With the newly rehabilitated food banking store, SAKAILAP members now have a safer place to take shelter during future emergencies.
