The Barangay San Isidro Persons with Disability Association (BSIPWDA), led by the innovative team of Engr. Darlito Palermo, Roman Motecillo, Apolonio Yntong, Arcadio Pamilar, Abel Loquiῆo, and Jean Cortez, in partnership with Pinnovation Academy, officially launched their innovation project, “Lingkuranan sa Kagawasan” (Chair of Freedom/Upuan ng Kalayaan), on September 25, 2024, at Fair Crown Suites, Davao City. This initiative is aimed at supporting persons with disabilities (PWDs) by introducing customized Rattan Wheelchairs designed specifically for their needs.
During the event, the team presented and awarded the first-ever Rattan Wheelchairs to two pilot beneficiaries—a 13-year-old with Cerebral Palsy and a 4-year-old with orthopedic disabilities. These wheelchairs are lightweight, child-friendly, and designed to enhance both mobility and comfort based on the specific needs of each child.
Key attendees included representatives from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Department of Health (DOH), PhilHealth, the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC), members of the Barangay San Isidro Council in Tagum City, and the Pinnovation Academy project team of Center for Disaster Preparedness Foundation. Each organization expressed their commitment to supporting the innovation project.
This initiative is a stepping stone toward promoting awareness that disability is not a barrier to an inclusive community. By supporting this vital project, these organizations are helping to create a more accessible and supportive environment for persons with disabilities.
